SIGN Dear Marianne, Certainly, by now, you may have heard news about the new Ukrainian education law, which deprives the national and ethnic minorities in Ukraine, including the Transcarpathian Hungarians, ethnic Romanians, ethnic Poles, ethnic Bulgarians, and ethnic Russians of the opportunity to continue learning their mother tongue after the age of 10 (i.e., effectively prohibiting such tuition in middle school and high school). After the recent signing of the Bill by the President of the Ukrainian Parliament, only Ukrainian President Petro Porosenko can now prevent the Bill from gaining the force of the law. Please SIGN this urgent petition, now: http://www.citizengo.org/en-eu/ed/93503-pres-ukraine-veto-education-law There is good reason for Porosenko to VETO the law, as it completely violates Ukraine's Constitution, which (the Constitution) states the following: Article 53 Citizens who belong to national minorities are guaranteed the right to receive instruction in their native language, or to study their native language in state and communal educational establishments and through national cultural societies in accordance with the law. And, astonishingly, the present law could lead to the abolition of 120 Romanian, 100 Hungarian and 5 Polish language schools, and would negatively affect Bulgarian and Russian minorities as well. In fact, Andrea Bocskor, a member of European Peoples' Party (pan-European party in the EU) said: "The law – ignoring the country's constitution and international commitments – strips ethnic minorities of their right to education in their mother tongue, which is a dramatic step backwards compared to recent (or even Soviet) legislation. Keeping in mind that at least 20 percent of Ukraine's population is composed of ethnic minorities, it is essential that they respect the language and cultural rights of these communities for the sake of social harmony." We support this effort as a right for national and ethnic minorities. Védd meg a nemzeti, kulturális, és nyelvi öröksége! Nézzük ELLENE az ukrán oktatási törvény együtt! Az ukrán elnök megvétózhatja a törvény a nemzeti kisebbségekkel szembeni! JEL Kedves Marianne, Természetesen most, akkor lehet, hogy hallott hírt az új ukrán oktatási törvény, amely megfosztja a nemzeti és etnikai kisebbségek Ukrajnában, köztük a kárpátaljai magyarok, románok, etnikai lengyelek, etnikai bolgárok és az etnikai oroszok a lehetőséget, hogy folytassa a tanulást anyanyelvük után 10 éves kor (azaz gyakorlatilag megtiltja a tandíjat a középiskolás és gimnáziumi). Támogatjuk ezt az erőfeszítést a jogot a nemzeti és etnikai kisebbségeket.
